It feels like just yesterday we were settling into the rhythm of fall, and now we’ve turned the corner into the second half of our school year! 

Last week marked one of my favorite annual milestones: welcoming our newest Jump Start K students. This free, 20-week kindergarten readiness program is now underway at four of our elementary schools. It's such a joy to see so many excited little learners taking their first steps into school. 🥰

I also want to congratulate Ridgetop Middle School. The school's Anchored4Life club was selected from more than 500 clubs worldwide to be featured in its international showcase. Anchored4Life is a student-led program that helps students build resiliency and leadership skills, particularly for navigating life transitions like military deployments, moving, or family changes. This honor highlights the amazing work Ridgetop students and staff are doing to help new students feel welcomed, connected, and supported. I’m so proud of them for being a model for schools around the world.

Thank you for your partnership in helping students finish first semester strong and begin this next chapter with confidence. I'm looking forward to all the growth the months ahead will bring!

February is Black History Month, a time to honor and reflect on the history and lasting contributions of Black Americans. Our schools will recognize the month with lessons, discussions, and activities that celebrate these stories and voices.

Barker Creek is hosting a K-8 Programs Information Session for new families on Wednesday, February 11, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Barker Creek Community School.

The session will provide prospective families the opportunity to learn more about these programs, tour the campus, and meet with teachers and staff.

Children are welcome to attend, but childcare is not offered for this event. A snack will be provided.

The next community listening session with our school board is scheduled for Monday, February 23, 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Silverdale Center (3650 NW Anderson Hill Rd., Silverdale) in the Rainier Conference Room (2nd floor).

These listening sessions are casual, drop-in opportunities for families and community members to connect and share your thoughts.

All parents and community members interested in learning more about our Montessori program are invited to attend Parent Information Night on Tuesday, February 24, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at John D. "Bud" Hawk Elementary at Jackson Park.

The night will include information about Montessori philosophy, curriculum, prepared learning environment, and guidelines for parent involvement. Attendance to this event is a primary step in the application process. Applications for program entrance this fall will be available following the meeting and are due March 13.

Bad weather may result in changes to school or bus schedules. We will announce changes by text, email, ParentSquare app, and district/school websites. If you don't hear from us by 6:00 a.m., it means schools and buses are operating normally.
